Welcome to newsletter number two! As we celebrated International Women's Day this month, we wanted to thank all of the amazing women that have given their time to getting the project off the ground so far. There has been lots going on and plenty coming up.
A big thank you to Barr Build for featuring Her Land in their International Women's Day online journal post - read it here.

Well done to those who braved the weather to come along to our family sessions in February! Families and volunteers helped plant trees, took part in a nature connection walk, explored the site on the children's treasure hunt, and enjoyed some nature crafts and refreshments in our recently-cleared Dutch barn.
A massive thanks to Heloise from The Outdoors Project for organising the event.

We were joined by the team from the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB), along with Old House Consultancy, natural builder Helen Shears, Mathias Restoration, and two of our volunteers for a walk around the site and to discuss ways we can use the heritage to give women and girls skills in conservation and natural building. We're hoping to be able to offer some sessions on pointing and brickwork conservation this summer using the walls of the walled garden, so watch this space! |

Some wonderful volunteers from Lucy Electric came along to a session to plant trees, barrow manure and enjoy a nice cuppa in the stunning sunshine.
Thank you so much to the team at Lucy Electric for their support.

The Her Land library is up and running! We have a selection of books on organic gardening, permaculture, plants, trees and shrubs that volunteers are welcome to borrow.
Head into the caravan to take a look.

We are now in the process of buying more plants for the next phase. Watch this space.

Solar panels
We'd love to get some solar panels onto the roof of the caravan. We've had some great advice so far and we are now looking for people that are interested in helping to research, source and set up the systems we need for our off-grid HQ.
If this sounds like your cup of tea, please do let us know!

Cardboard Collection
We're in need of cardboard to line the pathways that we're currently creating around the site.
If you have any large pieces that you can drop off, they would be so welcome!

Plant of the month...
Weeping Willow (Salix babylonica)
As many of you will know, there are plenty of wonderful weeping willow trees onsite. These very graceful trees grow to a height of around 15 metres, with a spreading crown of weeping branches that arch towards the ground.
Weeping willow is known for attracting bees, birds and butterflies, with nectar/pollen-rich yellow flowers (catkins) appearing in spring that provide an excellent food source for wildlife.
Did you know? First introduced to England from China in the 18th century, the vast majority of weeping willows in UK today are female!

Book of the month...
Feminine Sovereignty, Maggie Sale Ostara
Are you wondering what you can do about the world falling apart?
Through this book, you can explore this question while developing your personal sovereignty and making the contribution you came here to make.
Feminine Sovereignty is grounded in an ethic of care and compassion for the well-being of the entire collective and the living world as well as of the individual. It calls us to embrace our responsibilities to the whole while supporting and honoring our autonomy and self-determination.
|
"We need to be in action. And we need to do so from a new level of maturity, from true adulthood, from our feminine sovereignty. We're becoming the change, growing ourselves into the people who can respond to this urgency with creativity, optimism, vigor, and, I hope, some humour"
Maggie Sale Ostara
